I’ve been back to QCL a couple times already and my past week was spent up in Tahsis filming shows. I managed to shoot two episodes of Nice Fish; one with Miss B.C. and one on zzinging for Chinooks. I also shot two episodes of Nice Fish Jr; on Ling Cod and lite tackle Chinooks. These Nice Fish Jr episodes are not only fun to shoot, but extremely educational as well. Check out the news segment where Dylan visits Jack Brooks Hatchery in Sooke B.C. to learn about clipping coho fry!

Next week I will be filming at Duncanby Lodge for 4 days, then back in the office for a week, and then up to Port Alberni for 4 days. We’ve got lots of really amazing shows coming up - some of our best yet! Stay tuned.

Another Day, Another Broadcaster

The fun continues with “Nice Fish Jr.” as I have been attending a different event with Dylan every weekend to shoot episodes. Over the May long weekend, Dylan and I took the camper over to Vancouver where we intended to shoot a great episode on bass fishing in a little marsh in Pitt Meadows, as well as do some camping in the area. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate and we were unsuccessful. It seems that summer has finally arrived now though, so I will be taking Dylan back on Thursday to try again. I’m sure it will go much better this time around now that we have the weather on our side.

Dylan and I also attended the Learn to Fish program in Chemainus. This is a great program for children to learn all about loving and respecting the outdoors, habitat and natural resources, as well as tips and tricks to having an exciting and successful day on the water. It is also a great place for us adults to learn about doing our part in preserving things for our kids. Check out the “NFJr News” segment for more details.

In other news, I have just closed a very exciting deal with TUFF TV; a network in the states which launched in June 2009 and is the first digital broadcast television network to offer first run original programming targeted at men and the specific pursuits, interests, and hobbies they are passionate about. Tuff TV will be buying 337 episodes of "Nice Fish" to add to their repertoire of programming.

"Nice Fish Jr." Premiere!

This weekend was a great one as I finally got to see all my hard work and dedication on my T.V. screen for the premiere episode of “Nice Fish Jr.” which aired on CHEK on Saturday and Sunday. I’m so proud of this series, and of my grandson, Dylan, who is an amazing host and is following right in my footsteps.

Each episode is full of adventure and excitement which you won’t want to miss, so don’t forget to tune in to CHEK on Saturdays at 12:30pm and Sundays at 1:00pm to be part of the action.

We're almost there!

Most of my time and energy this past month has gone towards putting the final touches on Nice Fish Jr., and it’s almost ready! I’m hoping to have it airing on WILD TV and CHEK News in the next few weeks. It’s been a long process with some delays along the way, but the final outcome is going to be well worth the wait.

This entire process of producing Nice Fish Jr. has been great as it has allowed me a lot of time to spend with my grandkids. A couple of weeks ago I took Dylan to Stamp River for a shoot where he fished for steelhead; supposedly slow fishing this late in the season. The guide told us they were averaging 1 or 2 steelhead a day. Dylan caught 5, and landed 4. What a wonder kid that one is!

I was also able to enjoy a bit of relaxation in Mexico last week when my wife and I took a short trip to visit Ann Sobey. Her casa is absolutely spectacular and the three of us always have a great time. It’s back to the grind now though for, yes, you guessed it, another busy spring.

A Very Busy Winter

Happy New Year everyone! We had an extremely busy 2010, and there is no sign of stopping. Over the winter we have been working on, as well as completed, a lot of exciting deals. Nice Fish has entered a new country! 26 episodes of Nice Fish were sent over to Greece where it will be broadcast on White Fox. We are also airing on a new station in the states this year called Legacy TV, a Christian station that was launched just last year in January 2010. As well, we have put together a fantastic promotion on Wild TV where all four of my shows, “Nice Fish”, “Sport Fishing On The Fly”, “Gary Cooper’s Fishing Diary”, and my new series “Nice Fish Junior” will air on Wild TV three times per week each. On that note, I am very excited to announce that after years of creative reflection and hard work, I will be releasing my new series Nice Fish Junior next month. It is hosted by my 11-year-old grandson Dylan with guests such as his little brother Cameron. It’s been a blast to produce and I’m sure it’s going to be my best show yet. Check out our promo!

After a little down-time-trip to Disneyland with the Grandkids, and camping across the Western Provinces, I'm back in the office, and back on the water. In fact, I'm as busy today as I was 20 years ago, working with my editor in the Chek TV studio, here in Victoria. I also recently had the chance to fish for Summer-run Steelhead in Port Alberni's legendary Stamp River, and one of its pools recently named after yours truly-what an honor! In the midst of archiving, I came across this old video of me and my editor at CHEK, also reminiscing about some recent Summer-run Steelhead fishing. Check it out! I dont think so. I gave the rights to "The Lodge" to WFN. They will be producing a new season. Good Luck to QCL and WFN. And Speaking of WFN. Nice Fish is on quite a few times a week in both standard definition and HD. We sent them 26 new episodes so check it out. Did some interesting shows this year. One at QCL in aid of the Abilitis Foundation to help build a Lodge on a ranch for disabled people and thier families. A generous bidder paid $4250 to go fishing with me for the day. I think he was more interested in donating money to the foundation than spending a day with me. Was it worth it? Watch the episode. Did a show at Escott Sportfishing out of Massett Haida Gwai. My wife was my guest. Great episode as you learn a little about the Haida. Great Sockeye episode was shot in the Straits of Juan de Fuca. Thirty million sockeye heading back to the Fraser River? What is that all about?

Cambell River Tyee Pool was exciteing. The town was great at hosting me. Thanks to Tourism Campbell River, Patti Finn's Seafood Restaurant, Hilmark Boats and Randy Killoran. Did I catch a Tyee in the Tyee Pool?

I am off to Duncanby in Rivers Inlet for some great Coho Fishing. Wish me luck.

A busy Spring

Its been a hectic time with the production company having its biggest year ever. It is wearing me out. The new series of Nice Fish is now airing nightly on CHEK News TV channel 6 on most west coast TV sets and on Canadian satellite (Shaw and Bell carry the station on the low tier feeds so it is available to many across Canada).

It is broadcast every evening at 11:30 PM. That means 2:30 am in the east. Set those recorders and PVRs as these episodes are the best that I have done in 22 years.

That time of year is upon us. As I get older and the season's pass I find it harder to accomplish what I used to in the same amount of time. We are desperately editing to get the new season of Nice Fish on the air. Our bonus this year was the launching of Nice Fish on CHEK NEWS in Victoria. Seven days a week after the 11:00 clock news you can watch NICE FISH. The response from viewers has been fantastic and it is treat to see local advertisers like Island Outfitters and Padget Business services step up with advertising on the show. Also thanks to Queen Charlotte Lodge and Duncanby Lodge. I hope you fill every trip next year. And if you are planning a trip next year to a lodge salmon or halibut fishing now is the time to book. Deals can be had and its going to be an incredible season.

Been on Holidays

Took a much needed trip to Asia for the month of October. After a season of travel and big fish one would wonder why I need a holiday. Believe me, by the end of September I was beat up. Also my family had only seen me for about 7 days all summer. So off to Asia we went. Five days in Hong Kong, five days in Phuket Thailand, five days in Phnom Phen Cambodia, five days in Anghor Wat Cambodia, five days on the beaches of southern Cambodia, then five days on the beaches of Pattia Thailand and on to 5 days on a small Thailand Island called Kho Somet.

Its good to be back and am ready to go. There is a lot to do. Edit Nice Fish, Nice Fish Junior, SFOTF and "The Lodge" Thats forty hours of programming to get out to the broadcasters. We currently have four editors working furiously to try to keep things on time and on budget.

I would like to try to get out for a day to hook into some winter Chinooks in Sooke on Vancouver Island. My Son in Law hooked into quite a few on a charter. It appears that there are a few fish out there. The main problem is weather. So if you are venturing out be safe
