Fantasy Island
Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at 3:50PM Every once in a while a person gets a shock in life. Taken away from reality into something that is far from the norm or if I may say "A fairy tale"
Thats what happened when we visited Sunds Lodge on Malcom Island in front of Port McNeil BC on Vancouver Island. From the time we approached the Lodge and witnessed all the waving staff waiting with a song and a cool refreshment in hand. I had to say. "This is like fantasy Island. The Sund family really know how to host a four day party and everyday I was treated as a royal with laughter, fine wines , gourmet foods, exquisite rooms, cozy beds and the most safest fishable boats that I have ever seen. This is guided fishing at its finest and the fishing did not dissapoint. It was four days of catching big salmon on light tackle. I only hope that I was able to capture some of this magic on camera. on your show on tv which was shown on dish network on aug 26 2009 you asked for our opinions on which is better to use on salmon, liight gear or heavy gear.
i agree with the lighter the gear the better.
i live in washington state and have fished for salmon in puget sound the straits and hood canal as well as off the coast.
i have over 40 years of salmon fishing experience and can say without any doubt light gear does less harm.
people tend to yank too hard when using heavy gear and this will hurt the fishes mouth much more than fly gear
true the fish tires more with the light gear but he can recover much easier from being tired than from a torn mouth
i support your idea that less harm is better especially if your practice catch and release as i do . i never keep more than one that i will smoke and share with my friends and neighbors
keep up the good fishing show and your attitude of protecting the resource
